Dr. Federica Fascì Spurio

I’m a Gastroenterologist with experience in Internal Medicine and a strong focus on Clinical Nutrition and Metabolic Health.

I got my medical degree in 2005 at La Sapienza University of Rome, where I also completed my specialist training in Gastroenterology, in 2009.

Since my first years in medical school, I took every opportunity to travel abroad as a visiting student. This brought me in touch with different cultures allowing me to learn English, open my mind and gain knowledge in medicine.

I dedicated the first years of my medical career to inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD, namely Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis) and in 2014 I completed a PhD on this topic, after some experiences in prestigious IBD centers (like San Filippo Neri Hospital in Rome, the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh and King’s College Hospital in London).

At the end of 2013, I moved from Rome to the Venice area, where I started working full time as a hospital physician, initially in Internal Medicine, taking care of acute in-patients, and later in Gastroenterology, taking care of both in- and out-patients with all spectrums of gastrointestinal disease.

During my years as a doctor, I developed an intense interest towards nutritional sciences and metabolic health. This has deeply affected my way of thinking and my way of taking care of my patients: rather than putting band-aids on symptoms, I now try to identify the underlying causes of disease in order to fix and reverse them. I always try to look at my patients wholly, through every aspect of their health, diet and lifestyle, without limiting my attention to their gastrointestinal issues. I see plenty of people suffering from diseases that would be completely preventable through healthy habits: my goal today is to empower my patients to make good choices, every single day.

Ultimately, the best medicine I can offer my patients is to reduce their need for medications and medical care, in a long-lasting way.
